  • The Civil Rights District is considered the heart and soul of Birmingham. Visitors from all over the world travel here to mourn over the violent struggles for racial equality that traumatized the nation in the 1950s and 1960s. Worth visiting places in this quarter of Birmingham are the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, the 16th Street Baptist Church an the Kelly Ingram Park.
  • The Kelly Ingram Park is regarded as the threshold of the civil rights movement. Within the park, a cemented Freedom Path marks sculptures memorializing the riots that cropped up here in the 1960s. A serene water fountain streams in the center of the park, endowing with a shady spot for quiet contemplation and meditation.
  • The Birmingham Museum of Art is considered to be the finest in the South. With surplus to its free admission, the impressive permanent collection of over 21,000 works of art, dating from ancient times to the present day makes this modern facility quite outstanding. The collection includes a sculpture garden, 18th-century French paintings and ornamental arts and the Kress Collection of Renaissance Art.
  • The Alabama Jazz Music Hall of Fame Museum, which pays homage to musicians such as W. C. Handy, is a must-visit for all music lovers. The bi-level museum displays costumes, musical instrument, records, and playbills, calling to mind the glorious days of jazz, mainly in the early part of the previous century.
  • The Tanne Hill Park is a historical park which permits tourists to take part in Alabama’s iron work history. Here there are a great number of deer roaming about, beautiful rivers and creek and remnants of a whole iron working factory at the incept of the Industrial Revolution.
  • The Red Mountain Park is a trademarked park which gives you ample privilege for hiking, biking and an abundance of walking trails. The place consists of 3 mining sites and 2 overlooks with fun activities at the Red Ore Zip Tour and the Hugh Kaul Beanstalk Forest. One must reserve spots in advance.
  • Right on the periphery of Birmingham is the Alabama Adventure Theme Park. Also known as Vision-land, this adventure park consists of both a theme park and a water park to cool and relax during the hot summer days. The Alabama Adventure Theme Park has over 7 acres of land filled with over 25 primary attractions, including Alabama’s largest wooden roller coaster. A nice place to spend a day!
  • The Rickwood Park is the oldest baseball park in America and also one of the oldest attractions in the city of Birmingham. This park was built in the year 1910 for the Birmingham Barons, who currently play at Regions Field opened in 2013. The Rickwood Field is now a museum exhibiting history of baseball with a host of various other proceedings.
  • Enjoy strutting views of the city from one of the highest points around. The Vulcan Statue Museum proffers a history of Birmingham that holds the interests even of those who are just passing through the town. This place boasts of the world’s largest cast-iron statue and also pays homage to Birmingham as an historical center for iron and steel manufacture.
  • The Birmingham Botanical Gardens are worth visiting for anyone with a horticultural flair. Displays that are not limited to Southern offerings also pay tributes to other parts of the world. You can also take a drive or stroll through one of the close by townships of Mountain Brook.
