Activities and Attractions to do in New Mexico

  • Carlsbad Caverns is an assortment of 117 underground limestone caves. Enjoy both guided and self-guided tours, as well as prospects of backcountry hikes. The Brazilian free-tail, the spider cave tour and the bat tour are the main attractions here.

  • The Sandia Peak Tramway carries passengers to a summit of 10,378 feet length. The airborne tramway proffers a panoramic view of the Rio Grande Valley. Bonus is the 24 mile hiking trail that you sure would love.
  • The International UFO Museum is staged in the renowned town of Roswell where the supposed 1947 UFO crash took place. The kitschy museum attributes exhibits affiliated to the Roswell incident. An amazing “ET” experience!
  • The Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument portrays the lifestyle of the early Mogollon folks. The cliffs tower with the attached caves once served as the dwelling for the aboriginal natives in the 11th century. Take guided tours to these caves.
  • The Billy the Kid Museum themed on Fort Sumner reveals the life of the notorious Old West outlaw. The museum is home to around 60,000 pieces of artifacts related to Billy the Kid, his rifle and locks of the outlaw’s hair. Classic cars and over 150 firearms are other treasures of this museum.
  • Chaco Canyon National Historic Park is yet another do-not-miss in the city. This park features well-maintained pueblo buildings, a museum, number of gift shops and a nine-mile long looped trail that provide direct access all the major sites of the park.
  • Located in Santa Fe, The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum cherishes the works of the famous New Mexico resident Georgia O’Keeffe. The museum is home to over 1,100 paintings, photographs, sketches and sculptures.
  • The Palace of the Governors was initially put up as a seat of government for Spain in 1610. The premium palace now serves as the New Mexico History Museum. Tourists to this historical edifice can embark on both guided and self-guided tours.
  • The Harwood Museum of Art is almost 90 years old. The permanent exhibits of this museum include over 1,700 pieces of art and as many as 17,000 photographs. The museum eulogizes the works of local Taos artists dating back to the 1700s.
